What are the laws that I choose to live by? Which laws have been put upon me? Which of these have I internalized? How do they work in me and through me? Do these laws control me or strengthen me? Do I use these laws to control or strengthen others? What oaths do I willingly take? How is my will acting in concert with the world around me?

…Law requires movement. True law must balance belief and action. Our ideas must be galvanized by our will and our willingness. What do you believe, and what are you willing to do to give life and energy to your beliefs? If we want change, we must be willing to act. That is the power of Law.

In this crucial time, we are called to be healers—of the earth, of the human community, of each other and ourselves. We speak of ‘healing the earth,’ but in reality, what needs healing is our human relationship to the earth. Healing begins with listening…

Work for yourself, and soon you will see that Self is everywhere,” is a saying of the Faery Tradition. The paradox is that in spell casting we may start with the personal self, but in order to work the magic we are forced to expand and recognize the Self that moves through all beings. Magic involves a deliberate self-identification with other objects and people. To do a healing, we must become the healer, the one who is healed, and the energy of healing. To attract love, we must become love.

Empowering Direct Action pt.2 (Starhawk, Webs of Power)

“2. Life, Body, and connectedness. Empowering direct action maximizes respect for life.  We embrace life, the body and its needs and desires, our strong emotions and passions.  We understand that all of life is interconnected and that empowerment arises from our connections to the web of life.  Every act we take affects the whole.  All systems of oppression are also interconnected.  We might choose to focus on one issue at a given time, but we must ultimately dismantle the whole system of domination.” ~ Starhawk, Webs of Power: Notes from the Global Uprising

The Healer by Susan Slaviero

She stands barefoot in the storm,

hoping tomorrow, when the spirits

settle, her daughter’s fever will

break.  The willow tree is greening

in the front yard as she hums

to the rhythm of bees.  Her

runes tell her: thorn, hail. She

waits it out, brewing teas of

rosehip and chamomile, soothing

warm skin with feverfew.

In dreamtime, she is a wise

wolf, burying bones among

crests of pine, knowing

her task is to remember.

In the morning, she sings mud

into medicine, tells her daughter

stories of old women with bodies

like the Moon, all them brighter

after resting in the Earth’s shadow.

We need to turn away from both the narrow, thorny road and the broad road and look for the hidden green path that leads somewhere else. To find it, we need a satyagraha, a truth force that speaks for the truth of the body as well as the soul, that does not assume a punitive relationship to the body’s needs, that openly proclaims the inherent value of the body’s drives and desires.
